Are 1080p HDTV Televisions Always Worth the Money?
If you are looking for a new HDTV and you are not into huge screens you may end up saving quite a decent amount of money by choosing a set with a maximum resolution of 720p. While a set that is able to display images using 1080p resolutions is tempting for most people, the fact is that when it comes to smaller screens the improvement that 1080p (normally referred to as Full HD) offers can barely be appreciated. This is due to the fact that the improvement that is observed at high resolutions is really dependent on the size of the pixels that create the image.
A big screen that is projecting an image using the 720p standard is creating it using the same amount of scan lines that are used by a smaller screen using the same resolution. The difference is that in a bigger screen the scan lines are thicker. However, on a smaller screen that has smaller pixels 720p can be more than enough for most people since the scan lines will be relatively small. Changing to a higher standard would not really provide a very noticeable improvement since there is really a limit on how much detail out eyes can detect at a distance. In fact, there is a very reasonable percentage of people that do not see much of an improvement when they switch from 720p to 1080p even on big television sets.
Considering that HDTV televisions that offer Full HD are more expensive, you can really save some money if you choose a set that offers a maximum resolution of 720p. The money you could be saving may even be enough to buy a new Blu-Ray player to complement you new HDTV and get more out of you investment. It is worth mentioning that if you want to get the best out of your new High Definition television you need sources that use the HD standards so a Blu-Ray player is a perfect second investment.
