The Three Best Features of Aulos Recorders
Aulos Recorders
For many years, Aulos has been regarded as an industry leader in the manufacture of beginner recorders; together with Yamaha, they are largely responsible for the resurgence of interest in the recorder in recent years. In this article, I’ll share with you a few of the reasons why Aulos recorders really do lead the industry in terms of quality, accessibility, and price.
Curved windway. Unlike recorders of poorer quality, Aulos recorders have a curved windway- a feature usually only present in very high-end recorders, because manufacturing a windway that is curved is much more difficult than the “straight” alternative. The result of having a curved windway is that Aulos recorders have an excellent tone, which, while not exactly the same as a wooden recorder, is certainly a lot softer and less harsh than many other recorders.
Great tuning. Aulos recorders are also famous for playing very well in tune across the entire range of the instrument. Unlike “German system” recorders, or even many low-end “english system” recorders, the Aulos is exceptionally consistent; meaning that beginning students who start with an Aulos don’t have to “fight” the instrument, overblowing and creating bad habits to try to overcome a design flaw in the instrument.
Inexpensive. With an instrument like the recorder, accessibility is a major issue; and the single largest factor in determining accessibility is price. Here too, Aulos really leads the way. While it’s true that Aulos recorders are not the absolute cheapest on the market (brands like Tudor and Angel are less expensive), for the quality, the price is outstanding. For instance, an Aulos recorder with all the bells and whistles only costs around $60. Compare that to something like a Yamaha bass recorder, which can sell for upwards of $250, and you’ll really start to see a difference.
I hope I’ve given you some reasons to check out Aulos recorders for yourself!
