Picking a Cover for Your Kindle
Even though the Kindle reader is beautiful as it is, most owners decide they need a cover for their reader at some point. Deciding which of the thousands of different Kindle Covers to buy can be a tough decision. Let’s have a look at the different styles of cover to help determine the Best Kindle Cover for you.
- Book Style Covers. These are very much like old-fashioned dust jackets for traditional books. Usually made of leather (or ‘faux’ leather), they offer the user the feeling of reading a real book. It is important to get one with a good hinge system that clips the reading device into the spine so it can never be dropped. Also be sure to get something relatively lightweight so your ebook reader does not become too heavy to hold easily in one hand whilst reading.
- Carry Cases. These can be flexible neoprene or hard plastic shell type cases. Generally the reader is not held in permanently but simply slips in and out and is then secured by closing the zipper. These are best for people that do not want to read their Kindle in a jacket, but do want some protection when traveling with their reading device.
- Flip Style Stands. These are generally book style jackets that incorporate a rigid plastic or leather bound stand at the back. They do add bulk, but if you enjoy reading ‘hands free‘, such as whilst eating or studying, they can be very useful.
- Silicon Skins. These are extremely lightweight covers that slip over the device and fit like a glove. Cut outs allow access to key controls and the keypad can be used through the silicon as it is so thin. These are great to stop dust getting into the device, and also improve grip at the back. Be sure to buy a model that will not be too distracting whilst reading. They form a frame around the screen so simple white, black or clear skins are best. You can buy some fantastic designs but they can be very distracting as they frame the page you are trying to read.

No doubt, book-like covers are the best of any Kindle. Some will argue, but Amazon manufacture cover which beats any other any day. I’ve tested loads of them, but nothing compare to this book-like design. After all Kindle is a book reader not another IPhone gadget.
