Women’s Skirts for Different Seasons

There are many styles of women’s skirts for different seasons. Each skirt has its own look and style. No matter the season, skirts are in, but it’s important to choose one that suits your needs.

Pencil skirts are a fitted skirt that starts at the hips and tapers down, hugging the body. They usually stop just above the knee, and despite the socially proper length still manage to be very sexy due to clinging to all those curves. The pencil skirt can be very forgiving on larger bottoms if some spandex has been included in the fabric. It depends on the skirt. However, if the woman has a thicker middle and larger top, a pencil skirt’s slimming effect can make the woman appear disproportionate and top heavy. Pencil skirts are typically good for all seasons, including winter if leggings are worn underneath.

Broomstick skirts are made from intentionally creased fabrics and are often lightweight cotton. These skirts are excellent in spring and summer, but may lack warmth in the winter. They tend to be forgiving on all body types, but can overwhelm very willowy frames. Recommended for spring, summer and early fall. These skirts can be deceptively difficult to care for. They often require hand washing, hand wringing and a special twist and dry method of drying to keep the wrinkles in.

The a-line skirt starts at the waistline and flares out like a triangle, stopping right under the knees or a little lower. This style of skirt tends to make women look heavier than they are and this style should really only be worn by women with fit figures. The a-line is good for spring, summer, fall and winter, depending on the material the skirt is made from.

Wrap skirts are typically long sheets of fabric that are made into a skirt by wrapping around the body and tying. These are great on all figures and are best for summer.

Circle skirts are skirts that typically form a full circle when spread out. The drape of the fabric when worn can look very chic. This cut tends to be very flattering on the hips and thighs. This skirt is good for all seasons depending on the fabric.

Tulip skirts typically hug the hips and thighs and gradually flare out, like a tulip. They are very flattering on most figures and are good for all seasons.

Mini skirts are extremely short skirts. They require a fit, trim figure and a bold spirit. Because there is so little fabric, the mini skirt is typically best for warm weather, though they can also be worn with leggings for a warmer and tamer look.

No matter the season, skirts are a wardrobe staple.
