Tips for Finding the Right Cell Phone Plan

The thought of finding a new cell plan can be pretty overwhelming, enough to make us put it off and simply stick with what we have. But it is good evaluate and compare plans every so often. Plans change over time and so do our needs, so what may have worked well for a while may not be a good fit anymore.

Many of us have had to tighten our belts and cut costs recently. Evaluating your monthly cell bill to see if you can cut costs is a good place to start. By spending a little time researching and comparing plans you should be able to find the cheapest cell phone plans that fit your needs and save money over time.

First it is important to determine exactly what you need. Make a list of the things you absolutely need in a cell phone and plan. On that list make two columns one labeled “must haves” and one labeled “would like to have”. Spend some time thinking about this and filling out your list.

It’s important to have this list completed before you start shopping so you truly know what you need before you hear the sales pitches. But stick to the list.

Don’t be taken in by the great deals and freebies. Some of these deals are worthwhile, if you find one take advantage, but look at the full picture before you sign anything. Sometimes companies offer a great deal to hook you, but when you read the fine print you discover you will be paying more for another feature or service, so in the long run it will cost more.

If you can take advantage of a cell phone family plan or group plan. Ask friends and family about their cell plans and see if it would be beneficial to coordinate.

Don’t forget about pay as you go or prepaid cell plans. If you don’t like the idea of getting locked into a contract or if you just want a cell phone for occasional use this may be the best way to go.
