Get Your Dog a Dog Bed
If you are older than 40, you know how a normal day can leave your body aching. Now image that you were 95, how do you think you would feel after a hard day’s work? That must be how my 14 year old Newfoundland dog, Storm, must feel every day. We started noticing him slowing down several years ago and have tried all kinds of drugs and medicines to help elevate his arthritic pain. Nothing worked as well as finding the correct dog bed. After thinking about it for a while it only makes sense that a dog bed that helps keep the pressure off of his joints was going to help. So how do you find the right one?
The first thing to look for is a bed that is the right size for your dog. Choosing one too small and you dogs paws will hang off. Choosing one that is too large can make it hard for your old dog to get up and out of its new bed. o the best bed to look for is roughly six inches longer than it is from your dog’s nose to the back of his hind legs. Don’t worry about how long his tail is as that will just hang off and not cause any issues with your dog.
Now that you have found the right size, you need to look for the correct fabric. Fabric is an important selection because you want your dog to be comfortable but you also want to have a fabric that won’t capture too much dog hair or dog odors. If you have a short hair dog, most any fabric will do. If you have a long haired dog I suggest you look into a microfiber dog bed. These will not attract a lot of hair, and are quite durable and can be washed in your washing machine. A microfiber fabric will also keep matting down so you don’t have to take him to the dog groomer as often.
Your dog will love its new dog bed and it will help him live a long and active life.
