Choosing an Electric Shaver

Written by Original Source | Posted in Consumer Products

If you are buying an electric shaver as a gift, the volume of shavers on offer can make the task seem quite daunting.

The fact that there are so many different models available means there is probably a shaver to suit everyone, but it also makes choosing the right model very difficult. So how do you decide which model is best?

Who is the shaver for?

The starting point is to find out what type of the person has been using previously. They might have a particular brand that they like or that has given them good results in the past. If this is so, this might be a good place to start your search.

As an example, if the person is pleased with the results they get from their Remington foil shaver, it’s probably NOT a good idea to consider buying them a rotary shaver like the Philips Norelco.

I’m not saying you should never consider buying them a different type of shaver. You will get excellent results using most modern shavers, and given time most men will adapt to a different type of shave, but I know from experience that one type of shaver generally gives a closer shaver than the other depending on your skin type.

Where do they shave?

Where someone shaves plays a large part in deciding whether to buy a battery shaver, a mains powered shaver, or a rechargeable shaver. If someone travels a lot, a battery shaver might be a great option as it is most suitable for occasional use.

However, it wouldn’t be a great choice as an everyday shaver because you would be forever buying new batteries. Nowadays, a rechargeable shaver offers the best of both worlds, if you have access to a power source, you can use it whilst it is plugged-in, if not, the battery should have enough charge for up to 2 weeks.

Electric shavers can get real expensive very quickly, but you can find very similar models of shaver from within the same range that are a lot less expensive than the top of the range models.

Often the extra cost is for added features or a new external finish on the shaver. Very often the new features are not essential and rarely used, so if you are happy to sacrifice the fancy gadgets, it is a good opportunity to save a little money.
