Fallout 3: A New Face to an Old Story

Written by Original Source | Posted in Games

In 2008, 10 years after Fallout 2 was released, Fallout 3 finally hit the retail stores. It had been long awaited by the die hard Fallout fans and console gamers looking for a new style of game for years.

In 2003, Black Isle Studio’s, announced that they were working on a project that was to be the third Fallout RPG game. One year later unfortunately, Black Isle’s owner, Interplay Entertainment, went bankrupt and sold the rights of the game to Bethesda Softworks.

The game play looks completely different to Fallout and Fallout 2. Instead of the 3rd person birds eye view we have the option of first person view or third person view. While you will play most of the time in first person, the third person view is nice to check out the sweat gear that you pick up throughout the game.

Leveling up and character development is pretty similar to the previous games. Conversations with NPC yield a wide range of results that can even effect other NPCs reactions way down the track. The layers of the game are so complex that the options are simply endless.

The game story line is not linked in any way to the first two games. The only point that is the same is the background story because of course without that it wouldn’t really be Fallout without it.

The world in which the game is set is by far one of Bethesda’s best works yet. So much content was added to the game that even the editors do not know fully all the secrets and Easter eggs hidden throughout the map. It’s excellent fun as the player trying to find them all.

Luckily, the royalties paid out from Fallout 3 allowed Interplay has reemerged. It is good to have quality game manufacturers like this back making games. After all they did create such classics as Earthworm Jim and the top RPG PC game: Baldur’s Gate.
