Help With Upgrading WordPress
WordPress is a great platform for publishing many kinds of websites, including blogs. It performs SEO functions well and really anyone can be trained to use it. One other thing that makes WordPress great is that the WordPress.org people keep providing upgrades and releases on a regular basis. They do this to keep up with security issues and there are also often feature upgrades.
If you’re using WordPress plugins or have a lot of blogs, then it can be a hassle to do the needed upgrade when one is released. You have to stop creating content or you have to stop running your business, become a computer nerd and do the upgrade process.
For each WordPress upgrade, you should do the following:
- Take a backup of the WordPress files.
- Take a backup of the database.
- Upload the new WordPress files / do the automatic upgrade (if you can).
- Test the site and all plugins in the site administration to make sure everything is working.
- Test the site in different web browsers on different platforms.
- Move on to the next WordPress site to update.
Each WordPress site can take up to an hour to upgrade. If there are problems, it can take even longer and you might not know what needs to be done to fix things.
If you happen to be slacking behind on upgrades, then your WordPress website could get hacked. If it does get hacked, then you could have a very big mess to clean up. This process could take up to a whole day or more and is very frustrating.
