How to Find a Great Comforter Cover

Written by T.C. | Posted in Home and Household

Maybe you’re sick of the comforter on your bed but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on getting a new one. Maybe you want a thick, warm, luxurious comforter in the winter, but a light, airy, light colored one in the summer. You could buy two different comforters and store one in it’s ‘off season’, but you could go the easier route and simply buy comforter covers (aka duvet) to compliment the season or even your taste at that moment.

1. Decide what quality you’re looking for. There are some trendy duvets at Ikea, but they’re not going to be high thread count. That might not matter to you since the sheets are the part that actually touch your body. If it does matter to you, look at the higher end stores. Look for something 600 – 1000 thread count. The higher end duvets will feel thicker, heavier and more substantial.

2. Start your search online. There are SO many online duvet stores, yet in the mall you won’t find many options. It seems like some of the big stores are catching on (like Target), but you’ll still find far more options on their website than in their store. In the store there are simple & plain color choices, while online there are patterns, designs and more trendy options.

3. Check out the features. Consider what the opening is like and how it will work with your comforter. Some openings are at the bottom and just plain open, some have buttons, some have zippers etc. It’s personal preference, but something you should consider. You’ll also want to find one that is machine washable. The best part of having a comforter cover is that you can easily wash it just like you wash your sheets. Some of the better duvets & comforters also have buttons or hooks in the inside corners to keep the comforter in place.
