How to Flip Those Flipping Websites
Maybe you’ve seen those shows on TV where they show you how to flip a house. You buy a house that needs work, work on it and then sell it for a profit. Well, flipping a website is a lot like that but it’s quicker and you really don’t get your hands too dirty.
Start Building Your Flipping Website Already!
First, you will need to start with a website or a domain names. What’s preferred is to find a website that isn’t being taken care of but has been around for a while. Another way to do it is to buy a domain name that is going to expire but has had a website on it and has some age (it has been around a while – maybe 4 years or more). From there, you will want to do a number of things.
Next, you will want to gather up as much history about the domain name or website as you can. Use a site like archive.org to see how long it has been around and what kind of content it had on it. If you still have that content on the site, then you will reuse it since there could be some links pointing to it. You’ll want to keep that content under the same URL where it has always been or else you can alternatively set up 301 redirects. Either method works fine.
Getting good at installing WordPress with some good, SEO (search engine optimization) plug-ins is something you want to do. The faster you can do this, the more profitable you will be. Use a theme that’s unique with nice graphics and one that is SEO friendly.
Once you have that much set up, you should add more content. You’ll want to add about 10 unique articles to it. They have to be original articles that have not been on any other website before, so no copying from other sites. Either write it yourself or pay for an author to write it. You can get original articles of 500 words for about $5 each.
Get some more links pointing to the site by actively doing some link building. Don’t do it too quickly. Make it seem rather natural.
Then it’s probably best to let the website sit for a few months. During this time, you can work on some more websites to flip. You should have a stats program like Google Analytics installed on it (under its own account) so that you have accurate statistics of how many visitors the website is getting. The last month before you sell it (flip it), you may want to run ads on it – like Google AdSense. This will tell you about how much the website can generate per month.
After all this, then you’re ready to flip the website. If you don’t think it’s doing very well, then you might want to make some adjustments to keywords and page titles or add more links to it to get more traffic to it.
Time to Flip! Sell Your Website!
A good place to sell your website is over on Flippa.com. There are auctions going on all the time and that’s where a lot of people looking to buy niche websites will go and look. They will want to know how much traffic the website is getting and how much revenue it is making as well. Be honest with what you say since it’s not too difficult to figure out this information. Within a week or so, you will have flipped that website and given it a new owner that will take good care of it. You can expect to earn $300 or more for your flipped website. Not bad for a few hours of work!
