How to Hire a Wedding DJ
Your wedding day is an important one, there’s no arguing that. You want every detail to go flawlessly and everyone to enjoy sharing your special day with you. From the weddings I’ve been and and have seen, it’s rare that everything goes exactly to plan but with enough planning, you can minimize any problems that could arise.
One area that you really need to have covered is the wedding reception. If you plan on hiring a disc jockey, then you’re basically handing them the control of the reception and it’s up to them to control things for you. That’s what you’re hiring them for, so you want to make sure you’re putting that control into capable hands. Here is a list of some things to think about and ask any wedding DJs that you’re planning on hiring to give you a little help.
- Find out how much of the wedding reception they are comfortable being involved in. Will they direct the whole reception for you are are they just there to play music?
- Will they prepare an entire schedule for you or will you do it?
- Do they know when you want the cake cut?
- Do they know if you want some special dances? (father / bride dance, etc.)
- Do they have a selection of music for you to pick from?
- What will the DJ wear to the wedding reception?
- When are they going to show up? You don’t want them setting up while people are eating. You want them set up before anyone shows up at the reception.
- How long will they work until?
- Are there any extra charges?
- What kind of deposit do they require and what are the penalties if there is a change or cancellation?
These are just some of the basics that you’ll want to know from them. Be sure to conduct a complete interview with them and get some testimonials along with references that you can call. If they do not have a list like this, then do not hire them – that’s a red flag for sure.
And also find out if they have extra staff in case the disc jockey they have planned for your wedding reception does not show up. What happens then? There could be car trouble or some other reason that a DJ might not show up on your wedding day.
Ask good questions and make sure that they answer them confidently. It’s work but doing this kind of planning will make sure you have a great wedding reception that people will remember.
