Healing Yourself Naturally – How to Overcome Depression

Written by marylyn | Posted in Wellness |

The love of self is the greatest of all. Therefore in the middle of battling with all those negative thoughts is the task of self healing. The first step is to take a journey to the innermost longings; the next is to identify what you need, and finally acting upon it to set yourself free.

Balanced Work Life and Leisure

In this very busy lifetime, we dedicate most of our waking hours to work. Almost 75% of the time we have is spent for work from the time we join the work force until retirement. In between the work clock we strive to get a few minutes of relaxation through detoxifying our thoughts with other non work related activities such as socialization and joining company employee bonding activities like sports fests, or grab a book in between breaks. The stress extends all the way home when children and other family members demand most of your remaining time. It is however a must to be kind to one’s self and to once in a while break away and discover the life that goes beyond the pressure at the office or at home. Going somewhere you have never been or doing something that you never have done but always wanted to do (i.e. scuba diving, sky diving, etc.) will definitely give you a breathing space from the depression that is hounding you.

Balanced Diet

What you put in your body is what makes you the way you are and determines as well your state of mind as supported by your bodily functions. Eating healthy provides a shield against sickness or weakness. You need all that energy to fight against stress and anxiety and conquer that negative spell.

Yoga and the Spiritual Cleansing

Unconventional ways on how to overcome depression include practices like yoga which is believed even from the ancient times to “heal” the body from within the spirit. Yoga promotes discipline, respect of body and the environment, and most of all an awareness of the power of the intercession between the body and the mind.

Focus on Positive Change and Accomplishments

Finally, if you truly love yourself and want to completely remove depression in the list of your vocabulary, a habitual affirmation of the self and focusing more on the positive things in life like accomplishments you have made will definitely help you beat the blues before it beats you. Otherwise grab a book like the Eight Habits to Success by Stephen Covey or watch “The Secret” and create your own haven of happy thoughts. The rest follows.
