For many people the Kindle Wireless Reading Devices are simply the best choice of handheld ebook reader. The reason is that they are sold and managed by amazon and it seems these are one of the most trusted businesses in America today. But trust cannot be the only reason the Kindles are so popular.

Here are a few of the reasons why people buy this popular gadget:

• The online library provided at the Kindle site to back-up all your purchases, notes and annotations is something people really appreciate.
• The largest wireless bookstore. Yes you can access millions of ebooks from other sites, but only with the Kindle store are all those titles available for instant wireless download.
• Ridiculously large memory! With the smaller device you can store 1500 titles, and around 4500 with the larger Kindle DX Reader. That being said with many similarly priced alternatives you might get a smaller memory as standard but you do get the option to expand it with SD memory cards. Not possible with the reader from Amazon sadly!
• No need for a great knowledge of software or computers as you can manage the device on its own without going near a PC.
• Great quality display made through E-ink technology. Now this is widely available elsewhere but amazon seem to have cornered the market it letting the world know it is possible to read electronically but have the display looking pretty darned similar to the printed page.
• Good looking ergonomic design. This is one area amazon have excelled at. Sure there are a few newer (more expensive and harder to come by) e-readers out there that do look even more beautiful. But for the price and availability Kindles are definitely some of the best looking ebook readers out there.
• Did we mention they get sold by amazon, one of the most popular websites out there so basically everyone has heard of them, seen an advert for one or craved one already!

So there you go, some of the not always so sensible, but still common, reasons why people buy Kindles!
