What Would be Your Top Factor for the Ideal Mountain Bike Holiday?
What is your ideal holiday destination? I personally feel much better when I go on holiday if I feel that I have been able to get the best deal possible. I try to identify 3 key points to know that I have managed to get the ideal deal for me and my family. And it comes down to choice.
A wide range of prices
I would much rather choose the middle road. The cheaper prices always end in tears, I have found, simply because budget is always too budget. The ‘great deal’ is there on the table, and I tell all my friends about it until I actually get there and find out that I have blocked broken toilets, and it seems like it was last serviced when all the hip kids wore flares. The first time!
At the same time, I don’t want gold lined cages. So something in the middle is best. There are of course some places that have nothing but the two extremes on offer, so I try to choose the destinations that have a wide option.
A wide range of accommodation
Of course, closely associated with cost is the accommodation. And if I wanted cheap then perhaps self catering under canvas is best, though best watch out for those French summer storms if that’s your destination. It’s not just the room though. You need to be able to choose if you want self catering, which gives you the freedom, or if you would rather have someone cook all your food for you.
A wide choice of challenging routes… or easy ones!
Mountain biking holidays are all about the opportunities afforded by challenging terrains, but to be honest sometimes it is preferable to take the easy options, especially the day after the tough rides. So I don’t want to have to travel miles from my base to discover the big ranges, nor do I want to do the same thing to find the recovery rides that meander through beautiful forests.
Morzine mountain bike holidays offer all of these options, and it’s one of the most beautiful areas in France if not the world. Worth checking out whether you are a family looking for low challenge adventure, or a die-hard downhiller!
