Nail polish is a common beauty product nowadays in the 21st century. In fact, it has been invented in thousands of years ago. In the ancient times, women did not have a store to buy their nail polish. They made the nail polish from different types of natural ingredients. In addition, nail polish is privileged to royal families in many countries or it is used only for special events.

Red was the most popular color for nail polish long time ago in many countries. For example both Indian and ancient Roman people loved red. They paint red nail for their weddings. For Peru, people would draw eagles on their nails as a respect for important occasions.

Cosmetics were common in ancient Egypt as you can probably notice different kinds of beauty products like eyeliners, mascaras as well as nail polishes on pictures of ancient Egyptian. In the old days, only women from royal family were allowed to use red nail polish. Ordinary people who wished to use nail polish had to pick light colors. For royal family, nail polish was painted by technicians who made the polish more long lasting with Henna and blood.

Nail polish was also popular in the eastern countries like China. In Zhou Dynasty, around 1045-256 BC, people did not have nail polish. Royal family use false nails to make their nails look long and nice. These false nails were valuable as they were made of gold, silver and jewelries. Nail polish was actually invented in China in the Ming Dynasty, around 1368-1644 with flowers, egg white and wax.

The first public nail polish was launched by one of the beauty product brands, Revlon in 1920. Inspired by car painting, A French makeup artist named Michelle Menard invented the first commercial nail polish. Unfortunately, this first nail polish was found with toxic chemicals and such formula was later improved.

A brand named Tinkerbell introduced its brush on peel off nail polish in 1980. With this peel off nail polish, women needed no nail polish remover to take off their nail polish. The product became the best selling nail polish at their time. The most famous brand for peel off nail polish now is not Tinkerbell but Minx which offers a wide range of attractive peel off nail polish.

The technology of nail polish keeps improving from day to day. Now, you can even find the mood changing nail polish in the market. The color of this nail polish, after painted on your nails, changes from time to time according to your mood and body heat! What a wonderful product for women!
