Naruto Shippuuden Music

Naruto Shippuuden is the second series in the Naruto saga where the main character Naruto Uzumaki is no longer a young 12 year old adolescent boy. The story still centers around Naruto but this time, all the student characters that you’ve gotten know from the previous series (such as Sasuke and Sakura) have grown and are in their late teens. Of course, without disappointing avid fans, you’ll see a return of the other beloved characters including the Sannins – Tsunade (as the new Hokage) and Jiraiya, with whom Naruto had been training.

The new series took a different direction with their music selection. I found that they opted for a more pop genre flavor this time around rather than primarily focusing on rock. Regardless, I thought that the Naruto Shippuuden music is still top notch. The people behind the show were still able to successfully capture and convey the essence of the theme as well as reflect the personalities of the characters. Additionally, I think this change in music moves in line with the progression of the major characters themselves.

Amongst all the opening songs, I found the first one to be the best. The opening theme in the very first episode Homecoming was a rap/Japanese pop song called Hero’s Come Back!!! and it was performed by the band, Nobodyknows+. As you probably can easily guess, the song title is referencing Naruto’s return to his home village of Konoha.

It is probably worth noting that the song Hero’s Come Back is used in both the Naruto Shippuden episode 1 English dubbed version as well as the original Japanese version. For those fans that remember, in the first series, the opening themes between the English and Japanese versions were different (Rise, Power! and ROCKS, respectively). This may be a pleasant surprise for some. Personally, I prefer that the original music remains in order to maintain the authenticity of the show.
