Advantages of Mobile SMTP
Many people access their email accounts through providers such as Yahoo, Hotmail or a host of other email providers – including their company mail servers. They also use remote access software to access their desktop from remote locations. Yet, wouldn’t it be better to take your home or office email with you and access it through one email service and the same email address no matter where you are? You can, if you do a few steps to set it up.
What is Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)?
SMTP works in union with two protocols (set of rules) used to send email from your personal email service to a mail server, or from one email server to another. The two protocols that are necessary for setup of any SMTP service requires a POP (Posts Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol.) These are both designed to retrieve email from all existing mail servers. Every email program out there is set up to use these and you’ve seen them mentioned as you’ve set up new email accounts.
The sending part (SMTP outgoing mail server) can sometimes be a problem. On desktop computers that stay in one place have their outgoing SMTP server set up once and they’re good to go. This setting doesn’t need to be changed since it’s always using the server on the network. If you use a laptop, however, you might jump on different networks as you go to meet clients or stop at the coffee shop. Wherever you go, you would have to change your SMTP email settings when you change networks. What a pain!
What are the Advantages of Mobile SMTP?
1. Be free of the relaying denied message: Using your ISP’s server email while connected to the Internet through a wireless location or a second ISP, can lead to this message while trying to send email message. You often get the message: “Relaying denied. Proper authentication required.” Using a mobile SMTP, you can send messages from anywhere in the world through an of your email accounts.
2. Server Delays: Even when your ISP’s SMTP server is down (provided you are still connected to the Internet) you can still access and send messages through a Mobile SMTP that’s reliable.
3. Use your same email program and address anywhere: Regardless of the device you use to access emails, mobile SMTP is wherever you go. Such programs as Microsoft Outlook can now be used on the road with reliability.
4. Speedy Transactions: Your ISP email services receives the email into it’s SMTP server before sending out your message. This can result in delays of your message actually being received by the recipient. When you use a mobile SMTP server, just click on send and your message is already on it’s way!
5. Privacy Issues: ISP servers have personnel that can access your private email at any time. Having the mobile SMTP server avoids breaches in privacy of your contents and eliminates a major weakness in the communication link.
6. Avoid Blacklisting: ISP always ends up on a spam blacklist used by spammers for mass mailings. When this happens, you often find your emails blocked and retrieving a difficult task.
How Do I Obtain a Mobile SMTP?
The first step is to replace your current SMTP server. You can easily download and install your very own SMTP server or use an SMTP relay service. There are several free SMTP servers but they been known to be less than reliable. The same can be said of Google’s free Gmail SMTP. Another problem with free SMTP servers is that their load is high and spammers could be using them to send email, so if you use them, your emails have a higher likelihood of ending up in someone’s spam email folder and not being seen. So do not depend on a free SMTP service.
For optimum reliability, you can find a commercial package that provides more reliability than the free version. To set up your laptop or netbook, All you are required to do is alter some account settings in your chosen email program. One very good SMTP service to try is SMTP2Go. I use it myself and find that it’s affordable, easy to use and very reliable.
