Radio Controlled Alarm Clock
Of all the excuses we have used about being late to school or work, owning a radio controlled alarm clock prohibits the use of at least one. Synchronized with the radio signal that the U.S. Atomic Clock of Fort Worth Colorado emits, radio controlled alarm clocks are always right on time. There is no more “the clock must have been off,” when strolling past the water cooler. Now, just like cell phones, an increasing number of alarm clocks are becoming standardized by time zone.
Radio controlled alarm clocks, or atomic alarm clocks, range in price from $12 for inexpensive Timex models, and $25.99 for comparable models by The Home Depot, to higher end $80 devices that are compatible with your computer or MP3 player. The standard radio controlled alarm clock retails for around $30 and generally includes an AM/FM radio, LCD digital screen, and two alarms.
A good example of a standard atomic alarm clock is the Emerson CKS3088T SmartSet Dual Alarm Clock. Emerson of course claims that their “SmartSet”feature is “exclusive,” but the only exclusive thing about it is the name Emerson chose for it. Like all other atomic clocks, the Emerson SmartSet and other $30-range radio controlled alarm clocks conveniently sync with the national clock, so that even if your electricity goes out, your clock will be correct once your power is back on.
For a higher price tag, you can purchase a radio controlled alarm clock that is compatible with your MP3 player. This option also gives you the added bonus of doubling up the function of your alarm clock. It can be both a mini-entertainment system, as well as your wake up call. Of course, if you are hoping to attach a larger speaker system to your alarm clock, for true multiuse, be sure that the device you choose has an auxiliary output for speakers. You can even technically download radio-controlled alarm clocks with MP3 players for about $30.00. This sell is almost insulting to a buyer’s intellect, however, as you can purchase a standard downloadable MP3 alarm clock for only $20. Since it is, by definition, on your computer, the radio controlled clock function is implied.
A radio controlled alarm clock is most useful, perhaps, for the constant traveler, who goes between time zones while going on vacation or work related trips. For this shopper, there are radio controlled travel alarm clocks that run in a median price of $60. One model that is typical of the selection is Target’s Radio-Controlled Travel Alarm Clock, which retails for $49.99. It comes in an attractive silver-colored metal design, and almost looks like a cellular phone or MP3 device. It is designed for quite the stylish traveler. You can also find a higher end atomic travel alarm clock, which includes a backlit screen, large numbers, and the temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit. The Professional Global Travel Alarm Clock even comes with an attractive zip-up pouch for style and protection, making this fashionable travel clock camping friendly, too!
While we may take the easy functioning of a radio controlled clock for granted, we have only recently been able to enjoy its convenience in our own homes. Once used solely for high-tech, high-cost devices, we can now enjoy radio broadcasted time on our very own alarm clocks. Waking up just got simpler (minus the part where you have to wake up, which is eternally complex and horrible).
And then don’t forget about the kids. Getting a kids alarm clock can really make a big difference in the morning routine. Teaching kids to be responsible by setting their own alarm clock will help them later in life.
