Reimage Review

The recession has resulted in a rise the numbers of PC owners holding onto Windows XP as their system of choice. This article highlights the home PC repair and maintenance tasks that can be done to keep XP running well, along with a Reimage review for when issues require PC maintenance software to automate repairs.

Even prior to 2007 many XP users were content to stick with XP.
-    Patch and security updates from Microsoft kept it fast and stable.
-    Vista was a poor upgrade in most people’s eyes.
-    Cheap RAM for older machines meant standard machines had enough performance for all general needs.

The one gotcha of extending XP’s useful life is the need to do effective computer and maintenance. The maintenance tasks are easy for most users to do for themselves as follows:
-    Run anti-virus checks regularly.
-    Back up your data as often as necessary.
-    Run the automated Windows Updates to keep XP updated.
-    Uninstall unused applications and clean out caches (e.g. using CCleaner) to maintain enough free space on hard drives.
-    Defragment hard drives once a month (to maintain the speed of file access).

Running computer repairs is a two-step process. Firstly attempt to fix the issues yourself using online advice (preferably from Microsoft or larger forums). For more troublesome issues (blue screen errors, damaged registry, slow running PC, etc) then you should turn to PC maintenance software such as Reimage which was specifically designed for XP.

After receiving a blue screen error (with the code 0x80072F76) in 2008 I spotted a Reimage review on how it could automate the repairs. The Reimage repair process takes under 30 minutes to find faults in the registry & file system (OS & applications) and repair them using healthy registry settings sourced from their online knowledge base and replace damaged files from their repository of 25 million XP related files.

Running computer repair and maintenance tasks are a fundamental way to prolonging XP’s useful working life and with the use of products like Reimage it should be possible for most issues to be remedied by home PC repairs.
