With Christmas just four months away, it is time to freshen up your home with a new look. One of the first thing you need to do is to decide on is the decor theme you want. For new ideas or the latest themes, all you need to do is to pick up one of the recently published home decor magazine and flip through its pages for inspiration. Once you have decided on the theme that you want, you need to look for out certain things which will help you later: color and furniture.

For color, you need to be aware of what kind of dominant color is suitable for the theme that you are trying to create. For example, if you want a minimalist theme, the common color themes are black, white or silver. Alternatively, if you want a Victorian theme, you will need to go for earth tone colors such as brown or yellow. Once you know what is going to be the main colors that you will be using, apply that color consistently throughout your home, be it the colors for the furniture or the wallpapers that you are going to buy.

Next, you need to know what kind of furniture are suitable for your decor theme. A modern decor for example will need contemporary furniture pieces such as cellular shades or black wire shelving. On the other hand, a luxury theme might require animal print rugs, leather cushions etc that can add a touch of class and sophistication. Remember that the furniture you buy will need match with the style that you are trying to create. Without such matching, you will end up buying something that cannot fulfill the changes that you see in your mind.

Revamping the look of your home need not be a complicated affair. With just a few changes, you will be surprise at how the feel and mood of your place can be completely changed.
