The Sporty and Cool Geo Tracker

Written by scotty | Posted in Automotive |

The Geo Tracker is widely considered to be one of the best selling compact SUVs in the country. It is a small SUV that has won a substantial number of car awards and is considered to be one of the safest and most reliable cars on the market. Not only that, but it’s a car that is known to be an extremely good value for the money, which is not something that you can say about a lot of cars these days. This vehicle is solidly positioned as a low-cost alternative to models for Jeep and aimed at young buyers.

The Tracker, built by a General Motors and Suzuki partnership was discontinued in 2004. The Geo Tracker’s front springs are robust, but the rear springs on the Tracker resemble a standard mini-truck’s suspension. The Tracker comes in hardtop, four-door models and soft-top two-door versions that ride on a very short 86.6- inch wheelbase — 11 inches shorter than the four-door trucks. Inside, the Tracker is snug but there’s plenty of room for two. A rear seat costs extra in the basic Tracker. When the seat-back is swung back for passengers, it doesn’t extend all the way down to the seat cushion, leaving a gap that allows small stuff to slide into the tiny rear cargo well.

Standard specifications include:

Engine – 1.6 L 95 Horsepower
Transmission – 5 Speed Manual with Overdrive or 3 speed automatic
Fuel Economy – 23.9 mpg city and 35.9 mpg highway
The Tracker comes with a bumper-to-bumper 36 month/36,000 mile warranty

Despite its dependability and low parts prices owners will want to inspect and replace key Geo Tracker parts on a regular basis. Potential buyers should be aware of roll over issues. In spite of some safety issues, the Tracker is still a good budget option for those who need a sport utility vehicle.
