Travel Compression Socks

If you do any traveling, like overseas travel for instance, you know that sitting in one place for a long time can get pretty uncomfortable. Seasoned travelers know some secrets to help them survive these long trips and one of those secrets is wearing travel compression socks.

Compression socks help to stimulate blood flow and help prevent dangerous blood clots as well. Travelers are at a three times higher risk of getting a type of blood clot called venous thromboembolism. Venous thromboembolism is a blood clot in the deep veins of your legs and can be fatal. Even while wearing a compression sock, you should still try to get up and walk around a little every 1-2 hours if you can.

These kinds of socks also help prevent swelling as they stimulate blood movement. Travel compression socks are similar to diabetic socks for that same reason. A swelling foot can easily bruise since your shoes or sandals will not expand as your foot swells. This can be very painful and can limit your movability for an uncertain amount of time. What travel socks do is decrease pressure in your legs from the ankles to your knees and this keeps blood from pooling as blood is forced to the leg’s deep veins.

Most travel compression socks are made of a synthetic material like a nylon or microfiber. There are many colors and styles available for both men and women.

So if you get stuck back in the economy section of the airplane next time (where I usually am), then do your legs a favor and get some compression socks for travel. They will help stimulate blood flow and could even save your life.
