Try Crystal and Clay Cat Litter

Written by S. Thompson | Posted in Pets and Animals |

Do you remember the days of having to sweep loose granules of cat litter from around the litter box? I do, that is why I was happy when the crystal and clay cat litter formulas were offered to the public.

One of the most dreaded jobs for a cat lover is emptying the litter box, let’s face it nobody likes doing this particular job and in the days of plain kitty litter it seemed even worse. You had to completely empty the litter pan, then wash it out, then add new litter, which sent dust flying everywhere. Although clay litter has been on the market for some time, there are still some people who have stuck with plain litter. But I would like to point out some benefits to clay litter that some may not be aware of.

One of the biggest benefits would be cost efficiency. Although when you initially purchase the clay or crystal litter you may find its more expensive then the plain granulated litter, in the long term it’s actually less expensive. When you empty your litter pan with the granulated litter you have to replace all of the litter, which uses more litter. When you clean your litter pan with clay or crystal litter all you have to remove are the solid clumps and add just a bit more litter. Where a bag of granulated cat litter would last for about 2 to 4 changes, depending on the number of cats and cat litter pans, a container of clay or crystal cat litter can last for at least 5 or more litter changes, again depending on the same circumstances. This means fewer litter purchases then with the granulated litter.

Another benefit to be found with clay or crystal cat litter is the lack of dust involved when changing the litter. Granulated litter raises dust as its poured into the pan and again when its removed from the pan. But crystal or clay litter raises almost no dust because of it’s lack of gravel. You also have the added advantage of fewer litter particles landing outside of the pan with the crystal or clay litters. Granulated gets flung on a regular basis as it has nothing to cling to to stop it.

The biggest benefit to crystal or clay litters is that it eliminates odors from your cats. Granulated litters simply absorb the waste, but they offer no odor blocking. Crystal and clay litters not only absorb the waste, they also absorb the odors. This eliminates the unpleasant smell that comes from your cat’s litter pan that can make a room seem so unpleasant.

I hope these benefits offer you a more informed choice in litters.
