Use Yahoo! Mail Plus for Your Mobile SMTP Server

If you have a laptop or if your email host does not provide an SMTP server (outgoing email server) for you to use, then you may need to get a third party, mobile SMTP email service. With such a service, you can still use your domain name and your email may come in from another, incoming server but you can use a service like Yahoo! Mail Plus to send email.

There are many advantages to using an SMTP email service provider. One of the most important benefits is that you do not have to continuously change your outgoing email server when you jump on different networks.

You see, how things usually work is that you get to use an SMTP / outgoing email server with whatever network you are on. So your ISP (Internet Service Provider) usually provides one for you to use. What we’re starting to see is a lot of ISPs get out of the outgoing email service. This is for a number of reasons. For one, they have to keep copies of all email sent through them. This requires storage and dedicated servers. Secondly, they have make sure they stay off of spam lists or email blacklists. Third, they need to have things set up legally and watch for hackers. They also need to have the capacity to process a lot of email so that your email gets delivered quickly.

What we’re seeing is a lot of local ISPs shifting to using national SMTP providers instead of trying to handle that themselves. It’s just not feasible, cost-wise, for them to provide that service and do it reliably.

So what do you do?

With a service like Yahoo! Mail Plus, you can still use your domain, you can still use a program like Outlook to read and send your email and the service is reliable. The cost is less than $2 per month, which is a huge bargain if you ask me.
