Zebra Print – A Little Goes a Long Way

Zebra print is an absolute decorating and fashion “do” as long as it’s done right. Too much zebra print is a definite fashion and décor faux pas though. So, how can you be sure you’re getting it right? Stick to the tips below and you’ll not only get it right, you’ll get your wild side on with class, sophistication and fabulous style.

Keep it simple! The first and foremost important tip regarding zebra print is to never, never get your jungle fever on. No matter how tempting it might be to match your zebra print shoes with your zebra print handbag and top it off with a zebra print scarf – don’t do it! Too much zebra print will have onlookers wondering how you ever got out of your cage at the zoo! Instead, wear your zebra print in one place. Shoes? Great! Belt? Super! Zebra print shirt? Excellent! But stop there! Pair it with other neutrals or a pop of color but just don’t pair it with itself.

Same thing goes for zebra print décor. Zebra print bedding, zebra print window treatments, zebra print shower curtains and a zebra print towel set is overkill! You don’t want guests to feel like they need to wear camouflage to walk through your jungle room; do you? By all means, slip in some zebra print in the form of a throw blanket, a zebra print rug or a pillow or two in different shapes. Have a little zebra print on your shower curtain but nowhere else! Instead, mix in some other neutral small black and white patterns or solids or metallic accents. Avoid animal print insanity in your home!

Add it to any room in the house but be careful not to add it to every room in the house! No wardrobe should have more than one or two animal print garments and they should not be the same print. A leopard print leather skirt is hot – as long as it isn’t paired with any other animal print. The same holds true for your zebra print rug – don’t pair it with a cheetah loveseat! If you do, you’ll lose the impact of the bold zebra print pattern and you’ll also cause visual confusion.

The bottom line is that zebra print is an eye catching, visually interesting, decoratively stunning pattern that allows wearers and homeowners to let themselves take a walk on the wild side – to express themselves and to beautify their wardrobes and their surroundings. As long as it’s used sparingly and is accented with pops of color, neutrals, comparable toned patterns and of course a multitude of coordinating solids – just avoid going too far and creating your own petting zoo!
