Use Egg Rings for Perfect Breakfast Sandwiches
Cooking breakfast, as simple of a task as it often is, can be a messy process. Eggs are a wonderfully nutritious food that go with just about anything, but they can be a real chore to properly cook into shape, especially if you’re trying to make multiple items or prepare portions for a breakfast sandwich. A simple invention called the egg ring can make everything a whole lot easier.
McDonald’s invented the Egg McMuffin and I used to work there. They use similar egg rings to make the round eggs that fit on an English muffin or even a biscuit (although the McDonald’s biscuit sandwiches don’t use egg rings but folded eggs). Using a ring, you can make egg sandwiches for breakfast that taste really good. The rings are non-stick, so it’s easy to get them out of the ring.
This video has a secret to make sure the top of the egg also gets cooked and that eliminates the need to flip the egg in the ring – making the whole process a lot easier!
Egg rings are circular steel rings (duh), usually constructed from a non stick surface that allow you, the chef, to keep your eggs in perfect form while you cook. Fry them, scramble them, make an egg sandwich, add peppers, onions, bacon, however you want to prepare your meal, these little gems make it a piece of cake.
Cooking With Egg Cooking Rings
Speaking of cake (pardon the pun), egg rings are perfect for making pancakes, french toast, or any other breakfast batter. This makes things a heck of a lot more fun (and clean) if you’re the wonderful kind of parent who lets their kids cook with them in the morning – anyone can do it, and there’s a quite a bit less chance of spilling things all over your floor (too bad for the dog).
Though they typically come in the single variety, models with multiple rings are also widely available everywhere from Amazon to your local Walmart. Amco, RSVP and Fox run all produce easy-to-use, durable products, all within the affordable $10-20 price range.
Healthy Breakfast Sandwich Recipe
If you would like to cook breakfast sandwiches at home that are tons healthier than what you might find at fast food restaurants, then here’s a great recipe to follow:
- 1 pack whole grain English muffins
- 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- ½ lemon, juiced
- 1 tsp black pepper 1 ½ tsp salt
- 6 eggs
- 1 pack nitrate-free Canadian bacon (optional) or sliced turkey breast
- 1 pack medium cheddar cheese, sliced
In a small container with a lid, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, ½ tsp black pepper and ½ tsp salt. Stir to combine and set aside.
Toast the muffin and cook the eggs using the egg rings as explained in the video above.
On each half of the English muffin, spread with the lemon-pepper yogurt sauce.
Assemble your sandwich — the egg, a slice of cheese, the meat and you’re done!
Makes 6 breakfast sandwiches.
You can optionally keep the Greek yogurt mixture in a container in the fridge, eggs in another container and heat up a sandwich each morning you want one for the next few days.
With multiple egg rings, you can actually cook pancakes, hash browns, and eggs all at the same time. You can make some real mean homemade McGriddles. Just mix or scramble up your batter, add some butter, oil or bacon grease to the pan, pour the mixture into the egg ring, and cook to your liking. It’s honestly as simple as that.
